What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. It is most commonly used to treat pain however more recently it is also being used for overall wellness, including stress management.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
The thought of lots of needles is a little unnerving so it’s perfectly natural to feel nervous before your appointment, however acupuncture needles are extremely thin, so you may feel them initially but most find the experience to be quite relaxing and don’t feel any discomfort. The needles are inserted just under the skin, or deeper so they reach muscle. Once the needles are in place, they will be left in position for a length of time lasting from a few minutes up to around 30 minutes.
